NHS Big Tea was first conceived as a fundraising event for the NHS's 70th birthday. Three years later, thanks to Captain Tom Moore raising the profile of NHS Charities Together, the time was right to create a powerful concept and campaign to match the increased ambitions of one of the UK's fast-rising charities.
The pitch-winning idea was 'join a national outpouring of thanks' – turning the ubiquitous NHS rainbow into a liquified rainbow pour from the NHS Big Teapot. We wanted to capture the whole range of emotions that the nation was about to pour out – from joy to appreciation, thanks to respect – and this quick-turnaround project was a delight to work on. Lorraine Kelly lent her voice to the radio ads, Doctor Alex George featured in the 'perfect tea and toast' fundraising game and a whole range of people featured across the campaign comms – from patients to nurses, clinicians to cleaners – all pouring out their thanks.
